BCHL forms partnership with InStat, more in-depth stats and video for teams and fans

When the BCHL season begins Dec. 1, it’s still to be determined whether or not fans will be allowed to attend games.

If limits are placed on attendance numbers, then an initiative announced Thursday by the league will go a long way to connecting fans with the game, the league and its teams.

The BC Hockey League has announced an official partnership with InStat Hockey to provide advanced statistics and video for its 18 teams starting in 2020-21.

InStat was used by BCHL teams on a trial period last season.

The company made a formal pitch to the BCHL Board of Governors in January.

“We are excited to bring InStat in as an official league partner,” said BCHL Executive Director Steven Cocker. “InStat is a great player-development tool that allows our teams to take a deep dive into analyzing performance by way of video and advanced statistics. The platform will give our coaches and players a large database for learning with video clips and measurable benchmarks.”

On top of providing advanced statistics and video of games, BCHL teams will also have access to InStat’s scouting platform which includes a database of players from around the world.

“We are very excited to partner with the BCHL, one of the premier development leagues in the world. The league’s goal to create a collaborative partnership matched what InStat aims to achieve across the North American hockey landscape,” read a statement from InStat. “We look forward to aiding in the development of coaches and players throughout the BCHL.”

Each team will also be provided with data and video of various levels of hockey internationally, which coaches can use to enhance their communication with, and development of, players.
