City of Penticton work crews have descended on Penticton Creek.
Work, which began Monday, is taking place in the area of Penticton Avenue and McPherson Place. The goal is to prevent future flooding along the creek.
It will involve replacing deteriorating concrete weir structures with more natural and fish friendly rock riffles.
Crews will work Monday to Friday starting at 7 am.
The work is expected to be finished by early September.
The creek side walking path has now been diverted around the active work areas and there will be intermittent single lane alternating traffic on Penticton Avenue.
Residents are advised to stay clear of heavy equipment and follow all signage.
PentictonNow.com will follow up with city engineers later this week on the work taking place.
