Penticton Chamber hosting all-candidates forum Thursday

British Columbia residents go to the polls to elect a new provincial government Oct. 24.

With little more than two weeks before election day, and the COVID-19 pandemic forcing candidates to look at all options for campaigning, the Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce will provide residents with an opportunity to hear from each of the candidates in the Penticton riding.

The Chamber is hosting a virtual all candidates forum Thursday starting at 7 pm. – to be held via Zoom and Facebook Live.

“As a representative of the business community, we think it’s important to hear from the candidates – what they will do to improve business in the Penticton area – from widening Highway 3 to Vancouver and the US border, to clarifying the tourism funding that’s been announced and no one knows how to access,” said Chamber president Nicole Clark. “Deficits in government somehow need to be paid for and the business community certainly is bearing its share. So, how do they plan to address those things.”

All four candidates – incumbent Dan Ashton representing the Liberal party, Toni Boot from the NDP, Libertarian candidate Keith MacIntyre and Ted Shumaker of the BC Green party have committed to take part.

Clark and Nicolette Rodriguez from JCI Penticton will moderate the forum.

“Each candidate will have 45 seconds to make an opening statement,” said Clark. “Then we will ask questions to each of the candidates, they’ll be limited to one minute with their answers to allow everyone to have time to answer. Then they’ll each get 45 seconds to make a closing statement."

Residents in the constituency are invited to register and view the proceedings.

If you have a business question you want brought forward, you can submit the question in advance when registering, or email [email protected]
