26 pound American cat becomes an overnight viral sensation

BeeJay, aka Mr. B, aka Twitter’s ‘chonkiest’ cat is making headlines this weekend.

The adoptable feline rose to internet stardom after his photo was shared to Twitter by Philadelphia animal shelter Morris Animal Refuge on Thursday.

“Mr. B is a CHONK,” read the initial post. “He’s a chonk of a chonk. He redefines the term” — and truly he does.

The two-year-old tabby cat weighs in at a whopping 26 pounds and has eyes that make you want to snuggle him until the end of time.

After the initial tweet garnered nearly 50,000 likes, BeeJay has had so many adoption requests coming in that he crashed the Morris website, but not before they made the most of his newfound virtual fame.

Capitalizing on his celebrity-status, the shelter quickly made t-shirts with his adorably-melancholy face on them, with profits set to go right back into caring for their current residents.

Morris has also made sure to share the photos of some of their other adoptable animals while the spotlight is still shining — helping to find even their longest-standing residents a lovable home.

Mr. B has also become a role model for other “chonky” kitties, as he officially declared the very first ‘Chonky Cat Lovers Society’ meeting to commence — prompting one of the cutest threads in Twitter history to be born, with hundreds sharing photos of their own ‘chonkasaurus’ felines.

One of his many glamour shots has even become a new and all too relatable new meme.

Our personal fave:

The best part of all of this, is that he will have a new furever home by the end of the week!

You too can find your own furever friend, the Kelowna branch of the BCSPCA has so many adorable cats, dogs, birds, and more ready to be the newest addition to your household!
