A man has been charged following a murder in Surrey on Sunday.
Just before 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 20th, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of an altercation inside a residence in the 10000 block of 128A Street.
When police arrived, they found two women inside the residence in need of medical attention. A 35-year-old woman suffered non-life threatening injuries, while a 61-year-old woman was found in serious condition. BC Ambulance Service attempted to revive the older woman, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surrey RCMP said a man who is related to both women was arrested at the scene. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed that 39-year-old Sukhvir Badhesa has now been charged with 2nd degree murder, aggravated assault and uttering threats.
“IHIT was able to move very quickly through the initial stages of this investigation as a result of the quick work of Surrey RCMP in identifying what can be described as a domestic violence related homicide,” said IHIT Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Stephanie Ashton.
“IHIT remains on scene at the residence and will focus on ensuring all investigational steps are taken as the matter move through the court process.”
Badhesa is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial court Monday.
