Delta police say someone made off with a diamond covered, gold statue of an eagle worth millions of dollars.
The robbery took place at home in the 4700 block of 57th Street in Ladner. Police responded to a report of a robbery on Sunday at 10 a.m. When officers arrived they found a victim with minor injuries. During the robbery, a valuable Golden Eagle statue was stolen.
The Golden Eagle statue is a custom, hand-made piece of art that took 4,000 hours to create. It features 18 kt white gold, 14 kt white gold, 14 kt yellow gold, and 10 kt yellow gold. The eagle’s head is made of three kinds of gold and has 763 cut diamonds set upon it. The majority of the diamonds are approx. 0.07 carat each, but the diamonds range in diameter from 1 mm to 2.56 mm.
The Eagle has a weight of 18 lbs, including the 10 kt yellow gold internal assembly components.
The very unique and valuable piece of art is valued in the millions and police are still working to piece together exactly what happened at the home.
“We are asking the public to contact us with any tips about the whereabouts of the eagle or information on the crime to 604-946-4411,” said Sgt. Sarah Swallow.
Suspect descriptions have not yet been released as police work with witnesses and the victim. Tips about the robbery can also be made through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
