Young man killed by falling tree in B.C. during storm

A young man has died after being pinned down by a tree in Surrey on Friday afternoon.

RCMP believe that high winds caused the tree to break causing this unfortunate accident. “The Surrey RCMP is asking people to stay out of wooded areas during periods of high wind,” said Corporal Scotty Schumann.

Around 2:25 p.m., the Surrey RCMP, British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAC) and the Surrey Fire Department were called to Clayton Park. When crews arrived, they found the male pinned under the tree. Firefighters rescued the youth who suffered life-threatening injuries.

An ambulance did transport him to a local area hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
