B.C. RCMP used the first day of the month to announce the newest addition to their police forces across the province.
The new Police Cat Officers are furry, feisty and can work "almost 15 minutes a day before getting bored."
"A police cat entering the RCMP training program must be moody, aloof and pensive (no reason for it, they just are)," the B.C. RCMP said in a tweet.
The new four-legged officers would be trained in "claw enforcement" and cat burglary to have the ability to catch "purrpetrators."
They will also have mandated training in fingerprints and blood splatter as part of the new feline "furensics" unit.
However, before anyone could get too excited about the idea of felines in police vests roaming B.C.’s streets, Mounties admitted the service is just another April Fool’s gag.
The prank was one of many pranks pulled by police across the province.
