BC music industry receiving $7.5-million in pandemic support

The government of BC has announced it will invest $7.5-million into the province’s music industry through its music fund Amplify BC.

According to the province, the money will go towards supporting the four main pillars of BC’s music industry:

  • Industry initiatives: supporting the development of BC's music industry, such as up-and-coming talent, training, business development, export and research
  • Career development: focusing on emerging and established artists
  • Live music: providing support for BC-based live music events and the businesses that run them
  • Music company development: focusing on innovation and supporting the sustainability of BC's music sustainability

Including this year's funding, the province has invested a total of $22.5-million through Amplify BC.

Those funds have helped 66 music companies expand and diversify their activities, 352 artists with career development projects, 20 Indigenous artists and industry professionals as well as 141 live music events, festivals and concert presenters expand performance.

"Amplify BC has been supporting our music ecosystem for the past two years and this renewal means ongoing support for studios, live venues, festivals and development for artists and companies," said Lindsay MacPherson, executive director, Music BC.

"An investment now fosters the creativity and collaboration our industry needs as we work collectively on building a stronger future in the months ahead."
