BC reports nearly 5,000 COVID-19 cases, 24 new deaths over the weekend

British Columbia is reporting 4,997 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three-day reporting period.

There are 2,163 cases reported on Saturday, another 1,489 on Sunday and 1,345 today, and the province currently sits at 31,822 active cases.

Although hospitalizations saw a minor drop on Thursday, those numbers have increased once again across the province with a total of 987 COVID-positive people in hospital.

Of those hospitalizations, 129 people are in intensive care.

Sadly, 24 new deaths have been recorded in the past 72 hours for an overall total of 2,553.

Eighteen of those deaths were recorded in the Fraser Health region, three in Vancouver Coastal, two in Northern Health and one in Interior Health.

There have also been six new health-care facility outbreaks over the weekend, bringing the provincial total to 64 ongoing outbreaks.

The province has administered 10,466,993 doses of COVID-19 vaccines since December 2020.

As of Monday, 89.6% of eligible people five and older in BC have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 83.6% have received a second dose.

Moving to those aged 12 and up, 92.6% have received a first dose, 89.9% have their second dose and 40.4% have gotten a third dose.

For all eligible adults, 92.9% have a first dose, 90.3% have second dose and 43.3% have gotten a third dose.

Here’s a look at cases per 100,000 population after adjusting for age from Jan. 14-20:

  • Not vaccinated: 418.2

  • Partially vaccinated: 197.6

  • Fully vaccinated: 253.1


Here’s a look at hospitalizations per 100,000 population after adjusting for age from Jan. 7-20:

  • Not vaccinated: 81.7

  • Partially vaccinated: 48.4

  • Fully vaccinated: 18.7
