When a family had to evacuate their home after the Hanceville fire flared up near Williams Lake, they had to make the difficult decision to leave their beloved pets behind.
Luckily, a CVSE officer in the area was willing to go above and beyond to lend a helping hand, and took the five dogs back to safety.

The family had left their dogs behind and made arrangements for a neighbour to take care of them, but when the fire flared up again and more residences were evacuated, the dogs were left to fend for themselves.
“They had children, and there just wasn’t room in the vehicle, so they had to choose the children or the dogs,” says Konge. “So they made the right decision and took the children.”
Konge drove from Williams Lake to the family's residence, close to a one hour drive, to check on the four Newfoundlander dogs and one Chocolate Retriever.
“I decided, nope, they can’t stay here,” she says. “There’s no power at at Spokin Lake, so you couldn’t even give them any more water.”
Konge and her partner managed to get the five dogs in the backseat of her vehicle and take them back to her home in Williams Lake where she was staying while helping out with the wildfires.
“I filled up my swimming pool, my little kiddy swimming pool, and they took a spin through that and the Newfoundlanders loved the water,” says Konge.
The dogs are now being boarded at a farm in Quesnel, where they have lots of room to run around while they wait to be reunited with their grateful family.
