Coyote bites elderly BC woman walking 2 dogs

An elderly BC woman and her dog are on the mend after being attacked by a coyote in Vancouver earlier this week.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning, around midnight, near Winona Park when a woman was walking her two small dogs.

She then let the dogs off leash and four coyotes appeared shortly after.

One of the coyotes grabbed one of the dogs with its mouth and shook it.

In an attempt to rescue her dog, the woman was bitten in the hand before a passerby helped chase the coyotes away.

The woman received medical attention for her minor injuries and her dog is expected to survive its injuries.

“​​The public is asked to take precautions in case of coyote encounters, including ensuring pets are leashed and travelling in groups,” reads a social media post from the service.

“Conservation officers will monitor coyote activity in the area and respond as necessary to ensure public safety.”
