‘Grabbed her buttocks’: Man, 32, arrested after stranger sexual assault in BC

Mounties were able to track down a suspect and arrest him within an hour of an alleged stranger sexual assault in Burnaby last week.

Police responded to the report of the sexual assault in the 5500 block of Lane Street shortly after 8 am on Friday, May 29.

“The victim reported that a man approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks before running away,” an RCMP release explained.

Multiple officers flooded the area in search of a suspect and they alerted the security at nearby Metrotown Mall about the incident.

With the assistance of those security personnel, the suspect was located and arrested just under an hour after the original call came in.

“This type of crime can be traumatizing. The victim in this case gave police every advantage in locating the suspect with her quick response and call to 911,” said Insp. Sushile Sharma.

“Metrotown Security, as always, was ready to assist when we needed them. Thank you.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
