Two former Mounties are facing manslaughter charges following the death of a suspect in 2017.
The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced the approval of the charges today, stemming from an arrest made by police on July 18, 2017 in Prince George.
Cst. Paul Ste-Marie and Cst. Jean Francois Monette have been charged with manslaughter.
Additionally, three other Prince George RCMP officers, Cst. Arthur Dalman, Cst. Clarence Alexander MacDonald, and Sgt. Bayani (Jon) Eusebio Cruz, have been charged with attempting to obstruct justice in connection with the events immediately following the arrest.
The first appearance for all of the officers is scheduled for March 14, 2023 in Prince George Provincial Court.
Due to the nature of the incident, the matter was investigated by the police watchdog— the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC).
