A new online portal, hosted by the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB), has been launched in an effort to speed up application processing.
Effective today, all current and previous special event permit applicants must use the new online tool.
Applications will no longer be accepted through the previous portal hosted by the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB).
Application requirements are unchanged for people and organizations needing a special event permit (SEP) to serve liquor at events like community festivals, family gatherings and private functions.
The new portal simply aims to make for quicker, sometimes immediate, approval.
Applicants will need a BCeID or BC Mobile Card to securely verify their identities – more information is available on the LCRB website.
The LDB’s system will be decommissioned on Oct. 4. so, applicants with approved but unpaid SEPs must pay for and download their permits before then.
Permits that are still under review will receive notification but must still pay and download their approved permits before the beginning of October.
People hosting special events are reminded to be aware of and follow provincial health regulations that are in place during their event.
