A new survey has revealed what the Canadian provinces think of one another – and B.C. has proved something of an anomaly.
When asked if there is any province that is particularly friendly or close with B.C., 43% of all respondents replied with “None” in the Angus Reid Institute study.
B.C. residents appear to think that Alberta is their closest friend, with 31% saying it was friendly to the province.
Next-best was Saskatchewan, which 19% of B.C. residents said was close to the province, followed by Ontario, which 16% said was friendly.
But when asked if there was any province less close or more unfriendly towards B.C., the largest number of respondents – 47% – said Alberta.
The next-highest in the list was Quebec, which 41% of respondents said was less close with B.C.
When Albertans were asked the same question, 57% of respondents said B.C. was unfriendly towards them.
Nationally, the takeaway points from the study are that Quebec appears isolated from the rest of Canada, the Atlantic provinces are very fond of each other and the Prairies provinces also get on well together.
More than half of all Canadians – 53% – say Quebec takes more from the country than it gives in return.
Residents in Alberta, meanwhile, overwhelmingly (76%) agree with the sentiment that they get a raw deal from being part of Canada.
