(UPDATE: May 11 @ 10:30 am) - The RCMP has confirmed that two people were arrested in connection to an alleged abduction that resulted in a province-wide Amber Alert being issued early this morning.
The latest update from police revealed that the three-year-old twins who were the subjects of the Amber Alert were located safe in Burns Lake.
They were found 350 kilometres away from their home in Terrace, where Mounties were alerted late Sunday evening that the children had been taken.
An initial RCMP release issued at 1:20 am PT, 22 minutes after the Amber Alert was issued, classified it as a "parental abduction" and said the suspect was a 37-year-old woman.
"The investigating officers determined the children were in immediate danger and a BC Amber Alert was issued in the early hours of May 11," explained an RCMP update.
Police say plenty of tips were received and the children were located within the suspect vehicle 1.5 hours after the Amber Alert was issued.
Two individuals were taken into custody in relation to the incident and the twins are now in someone else's care.
“The BC Amber Alert system worked exactly as intended, and because of that, these children were located quickly and safely,” noted S/Sgt. Michael Bourguignon of the Terrace RCMP.
“We are incredibly grateful for the public’s immediate attention and willingness to assist. Their vigilance helped ensure a swift and safe resolution.”
No further information will be released by policy at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
