Poetry contest opens for youth in British Columbia

Kids in kindergarten to grade 12 in British Columbia are invited to participate in the Democracy and Me poetry contest to celebrate the importance of young voices in democracy.

Students are encouraged to reflect on the importance of community, civic engagement, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and democracy, in a creative poem or spoken word response.

Each grade category is provided with a unique question to help guide a creative entry.

"This poetry contest provides a unique medium to engage children and youth in democracy and further strengthen connections between our public institutions and young people in this province," said Janet Austin, lieutenant governor of British Columbia.
