Police stop impaired driver after he was unable to complete fast food order in Southern BC

Police in Southern BC dealt with an interesting situation in Trail recently.

According to RCMP, on Oct. 16 at 12:30 am, a man was seen trying to order fast food from a drive-thru in the 800 block of Victoria Street. The 43-year-old Vancouver man was reportedly talking out his driver-side window despite not being anywhere near the ordering speaker and menu board.

The suspect, who was in a grey 2021 Hyundai Tuscon, also left his gas cap open and struck the curb when entering the drive-thru lane.

"Based on these circumstances, the officers felt it appropriate to begin an impaired driving investigation and detain the man and his vehicle," wrote police. "A demand was read to the man, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a fail."

The man was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.
