UPDATE: Cat shot 5 times with BB gun in BC moves into loving home

(Update: August 20): A young cat who suffered serious injuries after being shot five times with a BB gun has found a loving home.

Mystic, who was left traumatized after being attacked in Nanaimo, has been adopted by a Vancouver Island woman named Cat.

The four-year-old feline had pellets lodged in his lower abdomen, front-right leg, spine and near his ribs when he arrived at the Nanaimo BC SPCA.

He also had a badly fractured leg, which vets have since amputated to save his life.

Now young Mystic is getting used to the good life.

Cat spends two hours a day of speaking softly to him and giving him plenty of cuddles in an effort to ease his anxiety.

She also built him a customized litter box to accommodate his three legs.

Mystic has also kept his favourite blanket from the SPCA to help him feel comfortable in his new surroundings.

SPCA staff have released the news so supporters and donors can see the effects their generous gifts can have.

“Your kindness helps animals like Mystic overcome all obstacles and live their best lives,” they added.

(Original story: August 12): The BC SPCA is appealing for help to care for a cat that was shot several times with a BB gun.

Mystic, who is four, was left seriously injured after the attack in Nanaimo.

Five pellets were found lodged in his lower abdomen, front-right leg, spine and near his ribs.

His back-left leg was also broken into several pieces.

“Mystic is a shy guy who has been through a traumatic experience that has caused him a bit of anxiety,” said SPCA Nanaimo & District branch manager Leon Davis.

“With surgery and continued healing hopefully he will be relieved from his discomfort and be able to feel like a calm happy cat again.”

An investigation is under way to find out who shot Mystic.

His medical bills and care are expected to cost $1,674 and he will need to wait at least four months before being put up for adoption.
