These 2 BC regions set new daily records for cool temperatures on Tuesday

Although many parts of the province are expected to experience a mini heatwave this week, two small areas experienced temperatures below zero on Tuesday.

Much of the BC Interior is going to see temperatures in the low to mid 30s by Thursday, before returning to more seasonal temperatures.

However, Burns Lake and Puntzi Mountain have set new records for cool temperatures recorded on June 7.

“A ridge of high pressure bearing clear skies Tuesday morning brought cool temperatures,” says Environment Canada.

At 7:43 am, it was -5ºC in the Village of Burns Lake, which is located along Highway 16 between Smithers and Vanderhoof.

The village broke a temperature of -4.3ºC set in 1999.

Meanwhile, a new low of -4.9ºC was recorded in the Puntzi Mountain area, beating a record of -3.3ºC set in 2018.

The Puntzi Mountain airport is located in the Chilcotin region of the province, along Highway 20 between Bella Coola and Williams Lake.

Both locations warmed up dramatically by the afternoon.

At 5 pm on Tuesday, Burns Lake hit 21ºC while Puntzi Mountain hit 25ºC by 6 pm.
