UPDATE: All expected to survive after Hwy 97 crash

(UPDATE: April 15 @ 8:45 a.m.) - Everyone involved in Sunday's crash on Hwy 97 between Peachland and Summerland is expected to survive their injuries.

All three occupants of a Volkswagen involved in the crash were sent to hospital, one by air, with serious injuries.

Their vehicle was heading northbound around 4:40 p.m. when it collided with a southbound transport truck that lost control and crashed through the concrete barrier.

The truck continued across all four lines of highway, spilling its load across the road, before coming to rest in a ditch.

Hwy 97 is now fully open to traffic and anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn't yet talked to police is asked to call 250-491-5354.

(UPDATE: April 14 @ 9 p.m.) - Drive BC has reported that Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland has been reopened to single lane, alternating traffic.

Delays are to be expected, says DriveBC.

A serious motor vehicle incident has sent three to hospital and caused the closure of Hwy 97 between Summerland and Peachland.

Photos taken by travellers shows an overturned semi with lumber on the roadway.

BC Ambulance received a call about the incident at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday regarding the incident and responded with five ground ambulances, one air ambulance and a supervisor.

Five patients were assessed, two of which were walking wounded with minor injuries, another two were transported to hospital via ambulance and one victim was air lifted to hospital.

Highway 97 has been closed to both directions of traffic following the "serious vehicle incident" that occurred approximately seven-kilometres north of Summerland, south of Okanagan Lake Provincial Park, says DriveBC.

They estimate the route will reopen shortly after midnight at 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
