Crews continue to work feverishly to repair Hwy 3.
The Ministry of Transportation says they’re “working around the clock to restore the route between Hope and Princeton.
They installed nearly 25 metres of a 1.5-metre culvert overnight and have started the backfill process to rebuild the road today.
Over the weekend, the Ministry said the expectation was that Hwy 3 would be able to reopen with an “interim alignment” between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The hope is to be closer to the start of that timeline, which could potentially have the highway open again this weekend.
While a temporary fix is close, there is no timeline on long-term work to permanently repair one specific site that suffered extensive damage during heavy rains on Dec. 16.
The detour will operate with a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h once available and it’s possible it will be restricted to passenger vehicles only to start.
