Province to resurface nearly 500 km of BC Interior highways this summer

Summer is still a few weeks away, but it’s certainly going to feel like summer in the BC Interior this weekend.

As the winter jackets get put in storage and people start to bust out their bathing suits and lawn chairs, road crews around the province are getting to work as well.

According to the Province, work has already begun in the southern part of the BC Interior to resurface and upgrade around 482 kilometres of highways and side roads.

“In 2024, more than $122 million will be invested to resurface southern Interior highways and local roads, ensuring that drivers continue to have a safe and comfortable driving experience,” said a Ministry of Transportation release.

Here’s a full list of where roadwork will take place over the coming months:

• Hwy 1 - Revelstoke to four-lane (15.2 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 1 - Hoffman’s Bluff to Little River intermittent (17 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 1 - Valleyview to Orchards Walk and Barriere area side roads (40 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 3 - Cranbrook arterial and side roads (25.5 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 3 - Riverside Campground to Keremeos (16 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 3B - Trail area (14 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 6 - Nakusp to Burton (36 km of hot in-place recycled asphalt resurfacing)
• Hwy 22 - Trail to Castlegar (20 km of hot in-place recycling)
• Hwy 26 - Forest Service Road 200 to Wingdam (21 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 31A - New Denver to Fish Lake (13 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 33 - Beaverdell to Carmi (9 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 93 - Roosville to Junction of Hwy 3 (37 km of seal coat)
• Hwy 97 - North of Oliver to north of Okanagan Falls (33 km of repaving)
• Hwy 97 - Swan Lake to Hanna Road intermittent (17 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 97 - Lynes Pit to Cody intermittent and Quesnel area side roads (67 km of resurfacing)
• Hwy 97C - Elkhart brake check to John’s Creek (23 km of resurfacing)
• Cherryville area side roads (25 km of resurfacing)
• Slocan Valley side roads (17 km of resurfacing)
