UPDATE: Snowfall warnings ended for BC Interior mountain passes

(UPDATE: June 7 @ 8:30 a.m.) - Environment Canada has rescinded the special weather statements that had been issued for multiple B.C. Interior mountain passes.

Travel conditions for the weekend should be much more ideal than they were on Thursday night.

However, always check DriveBC for the latest regarding highway conditions and closures.

(Original story: June 6 @ 12:30 p.m.) - If you’re getting a head start on the weekend by travelling tonight, you could see some snow at higher elevations.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement that calls for a bit of snow on multiple mountain passes in the B.C. Interior.

That includes two to five centimetres on Hwy 3, Hwy 5 (The Coquihalla) and Hwy 1 (The Trans-Canada Highway).

If you’re using Hwy 97C (The Okanagan Connector), you can expect even more snow, as Environment Canada is predicting up to 10cm for the summit.

Flurries are expected above 1,300 to 1,500 metres in elevation, but they could briefly descend lower than that during periods of intense flurry activity.

The inclement weather is expected to begin Thursday night and continue into Friday morning.

Motorists and anyone heading outdoors to higher elevations are encouraged to prepare for winter-like conditions.

Be sure to check DriveBC for the latest conditions and information on any highway closures.
