Warning for Hwy 1 as up to 20 cm of snow expected to fall

Parts of Hwy 1 have been put under a snowfall warning.

Environment Canada said between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow are expected between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass.

“A Pacific low pressure system is moving over the region bringing snow,” the alert, issued early this morning, explained.

It added: “Snow will begin to switch over to rain this afternoon then taper off late this evening.”

Drive BC’s webcam at Rogers Pass is already showing a snow-covered road.

Environment Canada said motorists should be prepared to adjust their driving because slippery conditions are expected.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” the agency added.

Drivers along the Coquihalla have also been told to expect slippery conditions.
