A small wildfire was sparked by Naramata on Friday, and it’s believed to be human-caused.
The fire was found late Friday afternoon one kilometre off the Naramata Forest Service Road, and it grew to 0.25 hectares in size. Ten firefighters responded, as well as an excavator, water tender, and air tankers. Fire Information Officer Kelsey Winter says the airtankers were there “to blanket the fire and make sure that it didn’t spread because there were strong winds in the area.”

The fire is fully contained at 0.25 hectares, and on Saturday, one fire warden and an initial attack crew are on site, with a total of four personnel. The crews are joined by an excavator and water tender to complete mop up.
The blaze is believed to be human-caused, and Winter says it looks like a slash pile caught on fire. The cause is still under investigation.
There is currently a moderate to high fire danger rating in most of the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes the Okanagan, with areas of extreme throughout.
