The United Way is making it possible to walk in someone else’s shoes in the Okanagan.
A Poverty Simulation will be set up at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus on March 1st thanks to a partnership with the UBC Okanagan Student Union. The simulation will allow people to see and feel firsthand what people living in poverty have to go through.
Participants will experience encounters, obstacles, and challenges while facing business owners, police officers, agency workers, service providers, and government employees.
The simulation, which is called “Living on the Edge” is made to go through a month of life for a family that is living in poverty.
No matter how much money someone makes, the main goal of living is to provide food, shelter, and other simple needs to themselves and their family.
Now is your chance to experience how different it is for someone who is living in poverty to complete those goals.
Living on the Edge will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the UNC building at UBC.
