The UBCO Heat women’s golf team has officially become one of the names to beat in Canada West golf.
This past weekend at the Canada West Championship, UBCO swung to a second-place finish, their third consecutive medal at the conference championship dating back to 2021.
"This is another great result for our program as we continue to establish ourselves as one of the top teams in the country," said head coach Clay Stothers.
The Heat were led by Julia Alexander-Carew, who bounced back from a first-round that she shot 11-over par to a stellar four-under-par final round.
Alexander-Carew’s second-round total was tied for the lowest score of the whole tournament as she finished in fifth place individually.
"Julia shooting 68 as a rookie in a conference championship is so impressive," added Stothers.
"She showed herself to be a leader on our team with that performance and shows that the quality of players that are choosing our program continues to grow."
Lauren Nedo and Emily Cornwall both finished the tournament in the top 10 individual standings as Nedo finished 15-over par and Cornwall at 16-over par.
UBCO's second round was 26 strokes better than their first round, pushing the Heat 14 shots ahead of third place.
