UBCO women's golf team adds star recruit

The UBC Okanagan Heat women's golf team boosted their roster by adding a new talent from abroad, Khushi Hooda.

Hooda is currently the 631st ranked Amateur golfer in the world, according to World Amateur Golf Rankings.

That makes her the highest-ranked women's golfer in Canada West, a regional membership association for universities across Western Canada.

Hooda, from New Delhi, India, makes her way to UBCO as one of the highest touted recruits in recent years.

Her notable resume is highlighted with an All India Ladies National Amateur Championship win.

By winning the championship at 14, she became the second youngest victor in the tournament's 115-year history.

Another notable attribute was when she finished in fifth place at the 2015 US Kids Golf Championship, while she is also credited with six tournament wins between 2018-19.

Just last year, Hooda received the Rashtriya Bal Shakti Award, otherwise known as the Prime Minister's Award for children, which is given to Indian citizens under the age of 18 who display outstanding achievement.

Hooda looks forward to joining the Heat squad next season, saying she choose UBCO because "it offers quality education along with great opportunities in golf."

Heat head coach Clay Stothers said he's excited to add a high-merit player and student to the program.

"This is the first time our program has brought a player of this caliber," noted Stothers. "Her international results are extremely impressive. What might be even more impressive is the work she has done off the course".

Hooda will be joining the UBCO's management program, as well as the Heat golf team, in September 2022.
