It was a heartbreaking end to the season for the UBCO Heat softball team at the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) Championship after the Okanagan squad gave up a lead in the last inning and lost their quarter-final match.

The Heat were up against the Western Mustangs after finishing with a 1-2 record in pool play and advancing to the quarter-finals as the third seed.
UBCO jumped out to a 2-1 lead over the Mustangs in the second inning courtesy of runs from Cheyenne Simicak and Mikhaela Muir.
The score would remain the same into the bottom of the seventh inning as the Heat needed three outs to advance to the semifinals.
But, the Mustangs had other plans and posted two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 3-2 victory, knocking the Heat out of title contention.
In the round-robin segment of the event, the Heat lost to the Durham Lords (the eventual CCSA champions) and the Toronto Varsity Blues.
UBCO’s win in pool play came against the University of Ottawa Gees-Gees.
