Vernon man dies in workplace accident

A man is dead after an apparent accident at a Vernon business earlier today.

Trish Knight Chernecki, a representative of WorkSafeBC, says the RCMP contacted WorkSafeBC about the incident at 12:35 p.m. today.

She said preliminary information indicates a 4x4 vehicle slid off the back of an elevated hoist at Another Level Automotive & Offroad Ltd. in Vernon, pinning the worker.

Two WorkSafeBC officers are at the scene, and the RCMP has jurisdiction over the site.

Constable Jocelyn Noseworthy confirmed in a press release that the Vernon RCMP were called to a business on 34th Street in Vernon today, where a worker had “suffered fatal injuries while working on a vehicle.”

She said the investigation is still ongoing, and that no more information will be released at this time.
