Since starting the Share the Sunshine intiative six weeks ago, Michelle Droetboom has received 407 paintings from local artists to give to all healthcare workers at Kelowna General Hospital.
Droetboom's initial goal was to give away 150 paintings, but with over 100 artists involved, she was both happy and surprised at the community’s contributions.
All the paintings have a few words expressing gratitude and thanks to healthcare workers.
“This one says weak people revenge, strong people forgive, intelligent people ignore and grateful people paint for all the awesome angels at KGH,” explained Droetboom, as she reads the back of one of the paintings.
The artists have dedicated their paintings to three different units of the hospital - the ICU, 6 West and 4B.
“To be recognized by the community like this is just absolutely amazing, it is so touching,” said Jaymi Chernoff, the KGH Foundation's executive director.
Artists who were involved joined today's event to show their support and discuss their contributions.
The artwork was moved to KGH this afternoon.
