If you think your Christmas list is long consider the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. Today staff and volunteers began handing out the first of 2 thousand hampers. It will take 5 days to get through the list which includes everything needed to put on a nice Christmas dinner and thanks to Kelowna Santas, something to put under the tree as well.
Understanding the need that's out there, and seeing these people get some help is what makes it all worthwhile for the people at the Central Okanagan Food Bank.
"It's so heart-warming," said Revenue Development Officer Tammie Watson. "It can be so emotional. I love it."
Watson points out that 33% of food bank clients are children under 15 and 12% are seniors. The statistics are sad, but to be able to represent the community's generosity at this time of year is a privilege said Watson.
"Seeing the expression on their faces, on the kids' faces when they know they're going to have a fabulous dinner. To be able to supply that to somebody. You can't get a better feeling."
