286 people were counted as homeless in the survey conducted March 6th. That's up from 233 in 2016.

The count also reveals people are staying homeless longer and Indigenous people are increasingly over-represented in our homeless population at over one in four.

The research was conducted by the Central Okanagan Foundation with Point-in-Time Co-ordinator Jordan McKenzie and a team of 113 volunteers canvassing in the community.

McKenzie stopped in at KelownaNow to talk about the survey.
