Protesters Continue to Occupy Christy Clark's West Kelowna Office

The occupation of Premier Christy Clark’s constituency office in West Kelowna continues as protesters were again at that location Thursday morning.

The five Nicola Valley Chiefs took to the Premier’s office on Wednesday to say loud and clear that they were against bio-waste dumping in the Nicola Valley. The chiefs and supporters took to Clark’s office and the streets in West Kelowna to protest the dumping of the waste of sewer sludge, in the latest movement of opposition.

The Okanagan Nation Alliance is joining in the fight to stop the movement of bio solids to the Nicola Valley. The groups hope to draw the attention of the province to stop the importation to the area and find a new solution for disposing of the waste.

“The Indigenous Title, Aboriginal and Treaty Rights of our Peoples cannot be ignored in the new era of the landmark Tsilhqot’in decision. We stand with and beside our relations in their fight to protect their lands, resources and communities in the Nicola Valley, and really for all of us,” stated Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, Chair of the Okanagan Nation Alliance.

Protesters say they plan to occupy the Premier’s office until they are heard and change occurs. Recently a decision was made to truck bio solids to an area near Merritt from the Interior and Fraser Valley. A protest has also taken place near Merritt where supporters have blocked the trucks from entering the site.

There has been no comment from the Premier’s office regarding the occupation of her office.
