After a weekend of rain and cool temperatures, the Westside Road fire burning on the hills of West Kelowna has now been mostly contained, and the evacuation alert has been rescinded.

According to Central Okanagan Emergency Operations, the alert is no longer in effect for all of the properties along Westside Road from Denison Road and north to La Casa.

Although contained, the blaze is still burning and BC Wildfire will continue to monitor and work on the fire.

During this time, the public is asked to stay out of the fire-affected area and to follow all warnings/hazard signs.

Moving forward, residents in Central Okanagan are encouraged to be evacuation-ready for at least 72 hours.

As of Sunday at 8:00 p.m., the Westside Road fire is 75 per cent contained and remains at 560 hectares in size. Crews will be completing danger tree assessments, and working to mop up into the perimeter of the fire to further douse the blaze.
