(UPDATE: July 20 @ 2:30 p.m.) - After a couple of delays, Pebble Beach Park is finally open again to the public.
It's been closed since January as the Regional District of Central Okanagan installed a new outfall line through the park, from the Westside Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant to Okanagan Lake.
The park features a sandy beach, volleyball court, benches, tables and a portable washroom.
It's open daily from 6 a.m. until dusk.
(UPDATE: May 30 @ 3 p.m.) - Pebble Beach Park will remain closed until at least the end of June.
"With the permission of the City of West Kelowna, the closure of Pebble Beach Park has been extended until the end of June," said a release from the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO).
"This will allow remediation of the waterfront park off Whitworth Road, now that construction is almost complete for the RDCO Wastewater Treatment Plant outfall expansion."
The $4.7-million outfall expansion project will increase the efficiency and operation of the plant located off Gellatly Road.
It treats approximately 10 million litres of wastewater each day from the City of West Kelowna, District of Peachland and Westbank First Nation Reserves #9 and #10.
(Original story: March 29 @ 7 a.m.) - Pebble Beach Park in West Kelowna will be closed longer than expected.
The delay is due to unexpected construction challenges related to the Regional District of Central Okanagan Wastewater Treatment Plant outfall expansion.
As a result, the West Kelowna waterfront community park will be closed until at least May 31.
The park has been closed since January as the new outfall from the plant is passing through the park into Okanagan Lake.
Construction takes place between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily.
Pedestrians and motorists are asked to be aware of the construction zone and obey traffic control in the area.
