The Traders Cove Transfer Station is reopening on Friday after a lengthy closure to the McDougall Creek wildfire.
The transfer station will also have expanded hours of operation to help residents with clean up.
The facility, located at the junction of Westside Road and Bear Lake Main Road, will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 am until 5 pm.
Only residents, tenants and property owners in the RDCO are able to use the facility, says a release.
In an effort to support clean up and recovery for residents in the wildfire-affected community, there will be no limit on the volume of bagged household waste and non-burnt yard waste.
Building materials, large appliances, burnt debris, hazardous material or demolition material cannot be accepted, however.
Information for additional waste disposal is available through the “Returning Home Guide.”
“The affected areas have been without power for several days and property owners should speak with their insurers about how to manage their fridges and freezers before they begin to discard items,” says the regional district.
The emergency operations centre currently has a program in place for curbside pickup of ruined fridges and freezers with content.
Anyone wanting to dispose of waste can visit the Westside waste centre on Asquith Road or the Glenmore Landfill/
The Traders Cove Transfer Station will return to normal operating hours on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
