By this time next year, West Kelowna will officially have its very first City Hall.
Despite incorporating in 2007, the city has waited to construct the building until now.
It's current facilities next to the arena on Cameron Road were only ever meant to be temporary.
Plans call for three storeys with approximately 30,000 square feet for civic purposes and an additional 15,000 square feet of space for a public library.
“It's going to be a building our residents can be proud of,” West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom said.
“This is a wonderful step forward for our residents. City hall offices have been in temporary facilities for 13 years.”
A vacant lot directly north of the Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre is the chosen site for the project.
According to city planners, the new project comes with a budget of $18-million.
City of West Kelowna plans to borrow up to $11-million to go with its $7-million in available savings.
As a result, the project is expected to go through with no new taxes.
