UPDATE: BC Wildfire Service reporting grass fire near Niskonlith Lake is being held

(UPDATE: April 5, 2018 @ 1:28 p.m.)

A grass fire that started yesterday near Niskonlith Lake, halfway between Chase and Pritchard is currently being held.

Jody Lucius, wildfire information officer, says that crews are working on mopping up today, with four personnel on the scene. The fire is estimated at 160 hectares, a size increase that Lucious says is do to better tracking of the fire's growth.

It is not expected to grow any further due to precipitation in the forecast.

It is believed to be human-caused at this time, but the specific cause is unknown.

BC Wildfire is currently tackling a grass fire near Niskonlith Lake, halfway between Chase and Pritchard.

The fire is estimated at 100 hectares in size and is very visible from Highway 1.

BC Wildfire is reporting that no values are being threatened at this time.

BC Wildfire has nine personnel on the fire right now, and are responding to the fire with help of the Adams Lake Indian Band fire department.

Kevin Skrepnek, wildfire information officer says the fire is burning in steep terrain and is quite large for a grass fire. He expects it will likely be active for most of the evening, but the weather forecast is in their favour, with a possibility of rain or snow.
