The latest numbers regarding British Columbia’s wildfire situation show that 20,000 hectares of land burned between Wednesday and Thursday.
Between April 1 and Thursday at 7 pm, 360,835 hectares burned as a result of BC’s early and aggressive wildfire season.
There have been 1,187 wildfires during that time frame and 272 (-5) are currently active and burning throughout the province.
Here’s how they break down by fire centre:
As a result of these fires, there are 58 (+8) evacuation orders and 78 (-1) evacuation alerts in place that are affecting 5,084 and 17,489 properties respectively.
The majority of those are found in Emergency Management BC’s Central region, which covers a similar area as the Kamloops Fire Centre.
There are 3,193 firefighters (+70) and other personnel who are fighting BC’s wildfires, who are being supported by 198 helicopters and planes (+20).
