Three mounties took some time to do a little horse wrangling on Monday.
Cst. Hewitt (Powell River RCMP), Cst. Ilioi (Nanaimo RCMP) and Cst. Brind’Amour (Nelson RCMP) were working in an evacuated zone near Williams Lake when two horses got free from their enclosure and were running freely on the roadway.
A third horse got trapped on the wire while attempting to scale the fence and as a result was bleeding, whining and further exciting the other horses.
“The horses were getting very upset, as they had become separated from their herd, and were very difficult to catch and control,” said Cst. Brind’Amour. “We managed to calm one horse down with an apple from our lunch.”
After some time, the officers were able to catch the two horses before assisting the third, whom they freed by pushing down the fencing and allowing it to get out.
With the three horses secured, the officers walked approximately one kilometre back to their enclosure.
