The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a wildfire on the eastern boundary of the Okanagan saw significant wind-related growth on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The Lower Campbell Creek fire, which is located around 12 kilometres northwest of Beaverdell and 25 kilometres northeast of Penticton, was last estimated at 200 hectares around 8:25 pm.

“This afternoon and evening, strong winds have increased fire behaviour and activity, resulting in growth to the east,” a BCWS update late Wednesday night explained.
It added that the fire is burning with Rank 3 and 4 fire behaviour, which is characterized as “a vigorous surface fire with some candling of trees.”
While the fire originated in the Kamloops Fire Centre, the BCWS says the recent growth pushed it inside the Southeast Fire Centre.
As a result, both fire centres will be coordinating response to the blaze.
The fire is suspected to be caused by lightning and there’s no indication it’s threatening any structures at this time.
However, the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has placed five properties west of Carmi under evacuation alert:
