The Kelowna Falcons open up their season at home this weekend.
The Falcons will take on the Port Angeles Lefties at Elks Stadium on Friday night.
First pitch for the home opener goes at 6:35 p.m. and admission will be free for all fans thanks to Telus.
“We have some unfinished business to take care of,” says Falcons second year manager Bryan Donohue. “I have my coaching staff returning to Kelowna and all three of us believe we have a better all-around team than last season. We are more talented, can hit the ball but more important will fill the zone with strikes.”
It will be an exciting Falcons team to watch this season, as Donohue is an aggressive manager when it comes to baserunning and manufacturing runs.
“We will put pressure on the defense this summer. You can’t afford to sit back and wait for someone to hit a home run, not with this wood bat league. I like our guys and the speed component to our team this season. We will make it tough of defences all summer long.”
The 2017 roster features 44 players, including six Canadians and two Kelowna natives in outfielder Davis Todosichuk and pitcher Connor Runnalls.
“I like the make-up of our team this summer,” says General Manager Mark Nonis. I think Bryan and his coaching staff have recruited well and I’m excited to see what our guys can do to excite our fans. We won the Eastern Division pennant just two summers ago and I know our fans are hungry for more.”
The Falcons and Lefties will kick off the season with a three game weekend series, with Saturday’s game starting at 6:35 p.m. as well before a 6:05 p.m. start on Sunday.
The Lefties are the newest team in the West Coast League, as they formally known as the Kitsap Bluejackets, who lost all six games to the Falcons last year.
KelownaNow has two pairs of seasons tickets up for grabs, stay tuned for that contest.
