Nolan Foote’s second goal of the game came 1:05 into overtime and gave the Kelowna Rockets a 3-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night.
Vernon-native Ben Wood opened the scoring for the Broncos just under eight minutes into the opening frame.
He deflected a point shot from Kasper Puutio past an outstretched Cole Schwebius, who got the start in net for the Rockets.
Foote tied it up in the second period with his first goal of the game, burying a loose puck from the slot after a wild scramble in front of the Swift Current net.
Just three minutes later, Pavel Novak buried his fifth goal of the season with a hot shot from the face off circle on a Rockets man advantage.
Kelowna held a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes, but Brecon Wood would tie up the game in the final frame, sending the two teams to overtime.
That’s when Foote, a first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, would take matters into his own hands, carrying the puck up ice and firing a hard wrist shot past Broncos goalie Isaac Poulter.
The shows ended 36-24 in favour of the Rockets, who now head out on the road for five divisional games in a row.
You won’t see them at home until Friday, Nov. 1, when the Prince George Cougars roll into town.
