If they can convince him to come across the pond, the Kelowna Rockets have a steal.
The team selected Finnish defenseman Lassi Thomson with the 53rd overall pick in the Canadian Hockey League’s annual import draft.

Thomson, who’s eligible for the 2019 NHL entry draft, was a regular on Team Finland during their run to the gold medal in the 2018 IIHF World U18 Championship in April.
“Kelowna Rockets could get a nice steal in d-man Lassi Thomson if that works out,” tweeted European scout Dennis Schellenberg. “Offensive-minded, puckmoving defender who can (quarterback) the (powerplay) effectively.”
Now the work turns to convincing Thomson to come join the Rockets for the upcoming Western Hockey League season.
If he does join the team, Thomson could be a big part of filling the void left by the team’s three top scorers from the blueline last season in Cal Foote, Gordie Ballhorn and James Hilsendager.
