Sunday, June 4th was a big day for soccer in the Okanagan and proved for some competitive matches against Kelowna United and Vernon United.
The results are in for the Kelowna United (KU) and UBC Okanagan (UBCO) Junior Heat soccer teams.
Six KU and UBCO matches were played in the past week, including five on Sunday.

KU U13 Boys Warriors (Yann) – 0 KU/Junior Heat S U13 Boys - 6
Wednesday the Warriors had to declare a 6 nothing defeat to the Kelowna United Junior Heat team.

KU U13 Boys Warriors (Yann) – 2 Vernon United U13 Boys - 3
The Warriors met Vernon in a very close game. Vernon scored just minutes into the game; not discouraged, the Warriors pressure paid off 20 minutes later with a pass by Jaeke Schlachter to Jack Millikin, who looped the ball over the goalie into the net. Vernon scored again halfway through the second half. Kelowna responded with a pass by Riley Woolfall to Mikey Krause, who buried the ball. Unfortunately, Vernon used one more scoring opportunity, winning the match with a header.

KU U15 Boys – 10 Vernon United U15 Boys – 0
The U15 boys played Vernon this weekend and won 10-0. (did not get details of scorers)

KU U15 Girls (Greenhough) – 3 KU U15 Girls (Manning) – 1
The friendly rivalry between the two KU U-15 Girls teams continued this weekend when they met for their final game of the regular season. The teams were quite evenly matched throughout the game and both demonstrated excellent ball control and movement. KU Greenhough scored first 3 minutes into the game when Lindsay Goett fed the ball to Ashlyn Eisenkrein who made a great cross to Madison Dyck who got through the defenders and found the back of the net. Madison Dyck from KU Greenhough scored again a few minutes later. KU Manning got on the scoreboard on a high shot from Llala Joseph that sailed overTayshja Clark’s finger tips 28 minutes into the first half. At half time, the score was still 2-1 for KU Greenhough. KU Manning came very close to tying the game ten minutes into the second half when Llala Joseph rattled a hard shot off the crossbar. Lindsay Goett from KU Greenhough finished off the scoring with a couple of minutes left in the game .

KU/Junior Heat U15 Boys – 4 Kamloops U15 Boys - 0
The U15 Junior Heat boys continued their winning season scoring 4 goals against the Kamloops team. Ethan Kersche, Chris West and Patrick Donovan each scored. Austin King sent a lovely cross in that resulted in an own goal for Kamloops.

KU 18 Boys – 5 Vernon United U18 Boys – 0
The KU U18 Boys played their final game of the regular season against Vernon United U18 Boys on Sunday. KU’s dominance in possession paid off when Ben Lommer opened the scoring in the first half followed by another goal by Taylor Piche. The KU team continued dominating in the second half resulting in three more goals from Quinn Large (1) and Mason Chidlow (2). Kelowna had many other great scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. Vernon continued to battle hard, however a solid performance by the KU defenders, as well as the Goaltending of Kevin Kentel kept them from scoring.
The team has a bye next weekend and will meet up with Vernon once again for playdowns the following week which will determine the league champions. KU U18 Boys have already been awarded a spot at Les Sinnott Memorial Boys Provincial Cup being held in Vernon from July 6 – 9th.
