For the 27th year in a row, ringette teams of all ages have traveled from all over BC and Alberta to come put their talents to the test at the annual Kelowna Ringette Sweetheart Tournament.
This year was a little more difficult for the traveling teams, as many teams had to battle through horrible road conditions, from freezing rain, snow-storms and even road closures. Some of the teams even ended up sleeping in their cars on the highway.
According to tournament director, Tina Pomponio, three of the 90 teams had to cancel, and about a dozen games were rescheduled to accommodate the late arrivals.
KelownaNow went over to the CNC rinks in the Mission to catch a few games of our hometown girls, and see how people are feeling about this weekend filled to the brim with ringette.
You can catch the action at almost every rink in the Kelowna area including, Royal Le Page Place in West Kelowna, the Winfield arena, Memorial, Rutland East/West and the two CNC rinks in the Mission area. There is no charge to watch the approximately 1300 athletes compete for the Sweetheart banners.
Medal games to take place this Sunday at the CNC as well as the Rutland rinks and downtown at Memorial. You can view the schedule and results at the Sweetheart website.
