Artistic Gymnasts Represent in Kamloops

The men’s and women’s artistic teams travelled to Kamloops this past weekend to compete in the annual Kamloops Invitational and trials to BC Championships.

In the men’s competition, Brady Clegg competed in the level 5 category where he cinched one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal on the horizontal bar, parallel bars, and the vault, respectively.

In the level 3 category, Rylen Thompson finished with a bronze medal on the parallel bars.

In level 2, Hani Rehan finished 2nd overall receiving gold on high bar and silver on parallel bars and vault. Elliot Bone finished third overall receiving gold on pommel horse and rings and bronze on vault and parallel bars.

Artiom competed in the level 1 category finishing 1st overall receiving 2 gold and 4 silvers. Jordan Gillberg finished 2nd all around receiving 3 gold and 1 silver.

In the women’s competition, the level 5 and 6 athletes were vying for a spot on the zone 2 (Thompson-Okanagan) team that will compete at this year’s BC Championships. Six young women earned a spot and will head to Port Coquitlam in April. Olive Fenske, Alayna Butler will compete in the JO 6 category, while Iulia Tarasenco, Veronika Yacovelli, Kate Levinsen and Piper Campo will compete in the JO 5 category.

Olive Fenske finished with a bronze medal overall after earning a silver on vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise. Alayna Butler finished with a bronze medal on the floor exercise. Both of these young ladies qualified to the zone 2 team.

In the level 5, 10-11 year old category, Iulia Tarasenco won first overall in her first level 5 competition. She finished with gold on uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and also earned a silver on vault.

Piper Campo earned a silver medal on floor and bronze medals on vault and uneven bars.

Veronika Yacovelli finished first overall in the 12-14 year old, level 5 category after winning the balance beam event, finishing second on uneven bars and floor exercise and earning the bronze on vault and Kate Levinsen earned a bronze on floor and silver on bars.

Izabelle Coetzee won the Level 4, 9-10 year old category in her first level 4 competition. She earned a gold on beam and a bronze on bars.

Alexandra Kennedy finished second overall after earning gold on uneven bars and a silver on the vault. Haylee Van Steinburg finished with a gold medal on the floor exercise, while Junelle Sabang finished with silver and Peyton Johal earned the bronze on the floor.

In the Level 4, 11-year-old category, Taylor Morrison finished 3rd overall after earning a gold on floor exercise and a bronze on balance beam. Teagan Murray finished 2nd on floor and vault. Teegan also tied for 3rd all around with Taylor Morrison in the level 4 category.

Raedyn Furneaux finished with a third place on the uneven bars and floor exercise.

In the Level 3, 10-13 year old category, Eva Solano finished in first place overall, finishing in first place on floor exercise, second place on the uneven bars, and bronze medals on vault and beam. Summer Houston finished third overall after finishing in second place on the floor exercise.

In the Level 3, 9-year-old category, Talia Westwood finished in first overall after earning a gold medal on vault and silver medals on uneven bars and balance beam.

Ava Roth finished in third place overall after earning a bronze medal on the vault.

In the Level 3, 8-year-old category, Tara Dunn finished second place overall after finishing first place on balance beam and second place on bars. Rae Roworth earned third overall finishing with a silver medal on balance beam and bronze medals on vault and uneven bars. Lexi Crawford finished with bronze medals on vault and floor. Makena Ivanitz earned a gold medal on the vault and a bronze medal on the beam.

Twisters Invitational, Abbotsford, BC

Seventeen women’s artistic athletes headed to Abbotsford over the weekend for trials to Westerns and first trials to Nationals. Four athletes from Okanagan Gymnastics qualified to Western Canada Championships.

In the Aspire 1 category, Natalia Simeunovic qualified to Team BC and will head to Brandon, Manitoba at the end of April. Simeunovic finished 2nd over all after earning a gold medal on balance beam, and a bronze medal on vault. Jayelle Williams earned a bronze medal on floor. Miah Denis earned a silver medal on vault and a bronze on beam finishing 4th overall.

In the JO 10 category, Jenna Mick and Gabriela Beselt qualified to Team BC and will also head to Western Canadian Championships. Mick finished with a silver medal on beam and 5th overall, while Beselt earned a bronze medal on beam and finished 4th overall. Kamryn Greenhalgh also competed in the JO 10 category, where she earned a silver medal on the vault in her age category.

Vanesssa Bulcock earned a spot on Team BC in the JO 9 category where she finished third overall after winning the vault and finishing in third spot on the floor exercise.

In the Level 8 category, Veronica Tarasenco finished in first place on the balance beam, while Kimberly Stadtmuller finished in first place on the floor exercise and third on balance beam.

Mackenzie Carroll earned a silver medal on the uneven bars and balance beam, finishing third overall in the JO 7 category. Taylor Bowden finished with a bronze medal on the floor exercise.

Surrey, BC

The weekend of March 3-5, 2017, the men’s artistic team travelled to Surrey to compete in their first competition of the season.

Shane Hiscock competed in his first National Open competition finishing 8th overall.

Brady Clegg competed in his first level 5 competition earning first place on high bar and a bronze medal on parallel bars. Lucas Fabian earned a silver medal on vault and a bronze on floor exercise.

In the level 3 competition, Jack Nyrose finished with a silver medal on vault in a category of 26 athletes.

In the level 2 category, Elliot Bone finished with a silver medal on the pommel horse.

In the level 1 category, Jordan Gillberg earned four golds and three silvers while Artiom Potapciuc earned three golds and four silvers.
